TRIESTE, WHERE COFFEE IS AN ART

TRIESTE, WHERE COFFEE IS AN ART

Trieste is really a cosmopolitan city where you breathe a special international atmosphere thanks to the position between mountain and sea and to the many populations who came here during the centuries.

The center is elegant, especially the main square piazza Unità d’Italia. In the past, the city was called “the little Vienna on the beach”.

But Trieste has another peculiarity: it is the city of coffee.

The big harbor is still today the most important one for coffee trade, and in the town you find many historic Literary Cafes.

The literary cafes tradition goes back to the end of the 19th century, when these historic places were frequented by writers, such as the poet Umberto Saba, the novelist Italo Svevo or his friend, the writer James Joyce.

To discover all of them you can follow the special Literary itinerary from the oldest one Caffè Tommaseo (1830), to Caffè degli Specchi in the main square, and Tergesteo, caffè Stella Polare Torinese, Urbanis, Pirona and Antico Caffè San Marco. During the advent season, in Trieste the Christmas decorations are special.

This year more than 70 Christmas trees adorn the squares; 24 of them are in Piazza Unità d’Italia.
