GENOA, BETWEEN ITALIAN SONGS AND ANCIENT FLAVOURS OF TRADITIONS

GENOA, BETWEEN ITALIAN SONGS AND ANCIENT FLAVOURS OF TRADITIONS

One of the four big marine republics, Genoa is inextricably linked to the sea and its ancient port.

The city is the birthplace of the great explorer and sailor Christopher Columbus, of the sublime violinist Niccolò Paganini and of the archistar Renzo Piano.

But Genoa is much more than this.

It is a city full of glamour, with the old caruggi lanes in the medieval center, the ancient artisan workshops and many gastronomic specialties such as the Baccalà fish, the focaccia with cheese or the famous perfumed Pesto made with the special local basil.

The town is well described in many songs of Italian singers like Fabrizio De André and Gino Paoli.

For Christmas time the true art form of the crèche craftsmen of Genoa, can be admired in the churches and in the antique palaces. Special Nativity scenes are, for instance, at the Santuario di Nostra Signora Assunta di Carbonara or at the Museo dei Beni Culturali Cappuccini.
