“As beautiful as a French city” this is what the italian writer Guido Piovene said about Ascoli Piceno.
The origines of the city date back to many centuries before Christ, but the main imporance came during the Middle Age when Ascoli was called the city of 100 towers.
The historical center is very elegant, build with a special stone called Travertino, coming from the near mountain caves.
The main square is Piazza del Popolo with the majestic palace of the Capitani del Popolo, porticoes and caffees. It is a must to stop at the elegant Caffè Meletti in Liberty style, to drink the special liquor Anisetta.
Ascoli is famous for the typical olives which become the tasty aperitif “Olive all’Ascolana”.
During the summer time in Ascoli takes place the historical reenactment called Quintana, whose origines come from the Middle Age.
